The CEO Gets What He Wants
Chapter 179
Just as both of them were chatting, Avery's phone rang.
“Grandpa, let me take the call first.” Releasing her grip on Blake's arm, Avery pulled her phone out of her pocket and saw that it was Cecelia on the line.
Avery answered, “Cecelia, what's up?”
Cecelia got to the point. “Ery, since we'll be working non-stop on the town's development project for at least half a year, the company's management has decided to bring forward the company's team-building event. Be at the office entrance at eight tomorrow morning and don't forget to bring sunscreen. That's all for now. You can message me if you have any questions. I still need to inform two others who aren't in the office.”
“Got it,” Avery said before ending the call.
She had participated in similar team-building activities, which she took as training and an opportunity to relax when she was studying overseas.
After having dinner with Blake, Avery cleared the table efficiently.
“Ms. Rumpley, please don't do the dishes. Mr. Moore will sack us if he finds out!” The housekeeper stopped her at once.
Don't all daughters-in-law of prominent families live a life of luxury? Is Ms. Rumpley a Cinderella who doesn't know how to do that?
As the housekeeper was new, she barely knew anyone else other than Cayden and Blake. Therefore, she was careful with her speech so as to not offend anyone.
From what I can see, Ms. Rumpley is obviously someone who's extremely easy to get along with.
Finally, Avery had no choice but to stop. Throughout the years, it had become a habit of hers to do her own dishes after dinner.
“Grandpa, I'll visit you again when I'm free.” Avery stopped Blake at the door from walking her out. After descending the steps, she headed to the subway station along the street.
Standing by the street lined with trees where their leaves were turning yellow, Avery observed the surroundings and noticed that there were very few cars. Also, those that passed by were all luxury cars.
Avery began to worry as she walked to the subway station with her head hung low.
Back at the Moore residence, the driver had returned after picking Zachary and Rory up.
Allie, who happened to be home, brought two glasses of milk upstairs. When she saw her grandchildren doing their homework, she asked with a smile, “Where did you go over the last two days? Did you stay with your daddy?”
Their father is so busy that it's hard to see him even at normal times. Where is he going to find the time and energy to pick the children up and take care of their needs? Just dinner alone is a problem, as he is really strict with their diet and doesn't approve of them eating out.
“We—” Before Zachary could say a thing, he caught a glimpse of Cayden coming upstairs and heading toward them.
As the floor was carpeted, Cayden's footsteps didn't make a sound at all.
Only when Allie followed the trajectory of Zachary's gaze did she see her son approach. She asked, “Did you take care of both of them alone? Were you able to manage?”
Allie's intention was for them to stay in the Moore residence, which carried within it the heritage of the Moore family.
Back then, everyone in the family had stayed in the mansion. It was extremely important as a symbol, not to mention the monetary value of the place.
No matter how many years had passed, Allie just refused to let the mansion fall into Lily and her son's possession.
After all, from the perspective of outsiders, whoever owned the Moore residence was officially recognized as the lady of the Moore family.
Back when Lily first discovered her husband's betrayal, she had fallen into depression and vanished from high society. Now that she had mentally recovered, she began to appear in public. Other than standing up for herself, she intended to humiliate Allie for wrecking her marriage.
Although Allie didn't deny being the third party, she felt that all was fair in love and war.
It was Lily's own fault for failing to keep her husband by her side.
Lily, on the other hand, was adamant about staying in the mansion despite how unhappy she was. Her actions implicitly showed that she, too, coveted it.
Despite being equally unhappy, Allie refused to move out as well. She was obviously afraid that the mansion would belong to Lily the moment she did.
Since Jeffrey had always felt guilty over what had happened to Lily and her son, he had always wanted to make it up to them on behalf of his deceased son.
However, there was a reason why Jeffrey did not transfer the ownership of the mansion to Lily, and Cayden wasn't it.
After all, he was extremely successful and had an endless supply of property and money.
What Jeffrey was truly concerned about were his great-grandchildren's feelings. As both of them grew up in the house, he couldn't bring himself to give the mansion to Lily.
As for Lily, she hated everything that had to do with Allie, which naturally included the two adorable children.
Even though she didn't dare to do anything extreme to them, she felt that it was right to kick them out of the house—out of sight, out of mind.
No wife who had been cheated upon would be able to tolerate the presence of the perpetrator's children and grandchildren.
One would have to be a saint to do that.
