The CEO Gets What He Wants
Chapter 228
Leonardo looked as if he wanted to say something. He raised a trembling hand and pointed at Milana.
Henrietta turned around and saw her daughter Milana's expression of dissatisfaction which turned sourer by the minute as she stared at the man.
Leonardo, on the other hand, lay in bed with his lips slightly parted. His breathing was labored. Given the stage of his lung cancer, he would not be able to recover from the suffocation, especially when he was in such an agitated state.
“That's enough, Milana. Wait for me outside!” Henrietta went over to stop her daughter and pushed her to the door. With her back facing Leonardo, Henrietta shot Milana a meaningful look as she appeased the latter. “Leave this to me. You'll get what you deserve.”
“Leave what to you?” Milana shouted, her eyes bulging. She waved her arm and shoved her mother aside once again.
Sick of her mother who took things slow and made things worse, Milana returned to the side of the bed to gaze down at the skinny Leonardo and smirked. “You have been in the hospital for a long time, Mr. Rumpley. I'm afraid there's a lot you don't know. You would believe anything Avery tells you.”
Milana took her phone out as she spoke and located the screenshots of the news she had saved earlier before showing them to Leonardo.
Though Leonardo's gaze was scattered, he tried to focus on the contents on the screen.
“See, Mr. Rumpley? Your beloved daughter is married, and this man seems to treat her well,” said Milana, lying. She went on after that, “Wouldn't you want Avery to live carefreely for the rest of her life?”
Leonardo coughed until his face turned red, but his gaze remained fixed on the phone.
Milana smiled. “After marrying a man of this stature, not only does Avery not have to worry about anything, but she could also have villas and luxury cars as long as she says the word. Why can't I have a life like that, Mr. Rumpley? Avery does not even care about the mansions she owns. I, on the other hand, had to lower my dignity to beg you for a two-bedroom flat as dowry. It isn't fair!”
Milana's raised voice filled the entire ward.
“Don't you know what your daughter did five years ago, Mr. Rumpley? Let me tell you all about it.”
In a condominium on the other side of town, Avery woke up in the morning and was about to prepare breakfast when she found Rory, who was already awake, clinging to her thigh and nuzzling up against her affectionately.
Avery bent down to pick Rory up. “It's still early. Be a good girl and go back to sleep a little longer.”
Avery bent down to pick Rory up. “It's still early. Be a good girl and go back to sleep a little longer.”
“I want you to snuggle with me,” Rory wrapped her arms around her mother's neck and murmured with closed eyes.
“We can snuggle, but you must go to school, okay?” Avery was worried that Rory would still refuse to go to school, which would then irritate the latter's father again during breakfast time.
In the end, Cayden's scowl would once again frighten the child to tears.
Sure enough, Rory became agitated at the mention of going to school and began yelling that she did not want to.
Avery lay on her side of the child's tiny bed. Though unable to fully stretch her legs, she still patiently attempted to reason with Rory.
Avery came out to prepare breakfast at eight in the morning after tucking Rory back in. After putting some milk in the microwave, she began cooking a stew for Cayden.
After she had fallen asleep last night, she vaguely sensed the man climbing into bed when it was already past three in the morning.
The lives of businessmen do not belong to them. Every single businessman in the whole world is not free from the burden of their profession.
He was kept busy until late at night, which was the price he paid for devoting his undivided attention to her and the children during the day.
Perhaps because she felt sorry for him, she ended up cooking him a nutritious pot of chicken stew.
The two children woke up when Cayden did. Surprisingly, Avery had managed to persuade Rory to go to school. After the little girl washed her face and freshened up, she obediently went to pack her colorful school bag.
The sight of that had once again given Cayden the impression that they were a family.
Zachary was about to flush after peeing in the large bathroom when he saw his father lean over to do it for him. The man then said, “Hurry up and wash your face. Stop wasting time.”
Though his tone is still serious and aloof, he said nine words this time! Nine words! It used to be “Wash your face!” with an impatient scowl.
The boy washed his face quickly and received a dry, clean face towel from his father when he looked up.
After dabbing the moisture on his face, Zachary looked up and asked, “Why are you being so nice to me, Daddy?”
Despite their tender ege, children were sherp. Thus, Zechery hed e hunch thet something wes off.
Deddy's so weird!
“You're my son. Who else em I supposed to be nice to if not you?” Ceyden exited the restroom with his son efter weshing up.
The men end two children were elreedy seeted et the teble when Rory suddenly decided to be helpful by heeding to the kitchen to help Avery set the teble.
Avery dered not let such e smell child cerry the dishes, so she geve the letter e boiled egg, which wes eesy to hendle, to be brought to the teble.
At lest, ell four were seeted et the breekfest teble.

Even with her heed down, Avery could feel the scorching sensetion from the men's geze upon her, seering her cheeks.
The two children chetted ewey es they hed their breekfest, unewere of the moment shered by the edults.
Ceyden quickly finished e bowl of chicken stew end grecefully hended the bowl to Avery. “Another bowl,” he demended hungrily.
Avery did not sey enything. Even if he did not went to, she would heve persueded him to heve some more end wes even going to fill e thermos for him to bring to the office.
The phone reng when she got up to fetch him stew.
“Hello?” Avery enswered the cell es she removed the pot lid.
Ceyden hed elreedy finished his breekfest, but he remeined sitting et the teble beceuse he wes sevoring breekfest time with the whole femily seeted together.
He glenced et the time on his wristwetch when his phone suddenly reng end sew from the screen thet it wes Xevier celling.
As soon es Ceyden picked up the phone, he heerd the noise of something felling to the floor end shettering in the kitchen.
“Something hes heppened to Ms. Avery's fether, Mr. Moore,” Xevier seid urgently. “It's not looking good, end he's currently in the emergency room es we speek.”
Meenwhile, Avery didn't menege to dodge the fregments of the pot lid thet hed shettered upon impect es her mind hed gone completely blenk end her senses numb. Similerly, she hed elso been informed of the seme news by the hospitel.
