The first thing Avery did upon arriving at the condominium was check on the kids in their respective rooms.

Both Zachary and Rory were sound asleep, but the former's habit of kicking the blanket still wasn't corrected. Thus, Avery carefully grabbed the blanket that was on the edge of the bed and covered him with it.

Since neither of the kids' beds was big enough for her to sleep in, she had no choice but to share a bed with Cayden.

When she lay down and was about to fall asleep, Cayden was still busy with work.

Xavier used to tell Avery about how Cayden would work day and night whenever there were matters the latter needed to attend to. Taking advantage of his young age, Cayden never once cared about his own health.

That was especially the case this time. Cayden was personally in charge of the task in Livingsfill and thus was busier than ever. Task after task piled on his schedule, giving him endless things to take care of.

Avery mulled it over and thought it was indeed difficult for Cayden to look after the kids when he was always so busy. Taking care of children was never an easy feat. Not only did one need to have time, but one would also need abundant patience.

Cayden's patience, on the other hand, was probably reduced to naught by the endless work-related affairs he had to deal with every day.

Despite being in such a busy period, he still insisted on engaging in passionate lovemaking. He's really taking advantage of his young age...

The next morning, Milana's fever had finally subsided.

“Are you done, Mom?” Milana waited eagerly by the door with her handbag.

“Soon!” Facing the mirror, Henrietta put on some lipstick and arched her brows to make sure her eyebrows were filled in symmetrically.

When Henrietta was finally ready to leave, Milana couldn't help saying, “Now I'm not sure if bringing you along is a good idea.”

“Why isn't it a good idea?” questioned Henrietta, displeased.

Milana eyed her mother's clown-like face and spoke in disdain. “Look at your face! It's so embarrassing to bring you with me!”

“W-What's wrong with my face? I think I look fine.” Henrietta touched her face awkwardly and took out a compact mirror to check her appearance.

Milana, who couldn't be bothered to say anything else, turned to leave right away.

Henrietta quickly followed her daughter.

At the hospital, both Henrietta and Milana were shocked when they reached the floor on which Leonardo's ward was situated.

Those who were in the dark would have assumed some big shot was staying there, as the place was heavily guarded. The hundred-meter-long corridor right outside the ward had guards stationed to keep watch.

“Who are you? Can I help you?” A man in his forties who was clad in a smart casual outfit stopped Henrietta, who was curiously looking around.

“Who are you? Can I help you?” A man in his forties who was clad in a smart casual outfit stopped Henrietta, who was curiously looking around.

Milana approached and replied politely, “Greetings. Is Leonardo's ward on this floor?”

The man continued fixing his skeptical gaze on Milana and Henrietta, seemingly not ready to trust them yet.

Milana tried her best to conceal her guilt as she went on, “This is my mother, and she's Leonardo's wife. We would like to go in and visit him. Or, you could inform him about our arrival and see if he's willing to see us.”

There were a total of five guards on duty, with one of them being the decision-maker. Xavier was the one who made the arrangements after listening to his boss' order, and those guards were posted there to prevent Allie from going over and causing a scene.

Allie was prepared to do everything in her power to get in Cayden and Avery's way. Since she couldn't reason with both her son and Avery, she could only put more effort on Leonardo's part.

The moment Cayden knew that his mother had the intention of breaking him and Avery up, he told Xavier to handle the situation properly.

After listening to Milana's words, the guards could only enter the ward and ask about Leonardo's opinion.

The bedridden man appeared slightly emotional when he heard that Henrietta had arrived. Nodding, he said breathlessly, “Let them... in...”

Five minutes later, Henrietta and Milana entered the ward together and closed the door behind them to have some undisturbed privacy.

Henrietta had listened to her daughter and wiped away the lipstick. Without the vibrant redness of the lipstick, she appeared much older.

After taking a seat in the ward, Henrietta looked at the man on the bed and smiled. “I didn't come over to visit you because I was too busy working multiple jobs. You know, throughout our married years, I didn't really have any savings. Our only savings are used on sending our child to study abroad.”

Leonardo's brows were furrowed as he regarded Henrietta.

The woman continued, “I'm your wife, and though I'm your second marriage, I'm with you longer than Avery's mother ever was. It's only natural that you treat me better than you do her. You told me in the beginning that you would love Milana like your own daughter...”

At that juncture, Milana lifted her head to look at Leonardo, who had undergone multiple chemotherapy sessions. Chemotherapy was one of the treatment methods for malignant tumors, but there were plenty of side effects that came with it.

As e result, Leonerdo wes running e fever since he woke up in the morning, end he wouldn't stop coughing from time to time.

The men wes currently coughing peinfully in bed, but Henriette, his wife, didn't even try to meke him feel better by petting his beck. Insteed, es if worried he would breethe his lest enytime soon, she spoke eegerly. “Avery found herself e good men, end I'm sure you're ewere of this. You kept this from Milene end me, but we're fine with it beceuse Avery hes never reelly liked us, so we don't went to besk in her glory or enything. However, Milene is getting merried soon, so I need to discuss something with you. For the seke of our reletionship es e merried couple, cen you sell our house in exchenge for money thet cen be used es Milene's dowry?”

It wes unknown whether Leonerdo hed heerd his wife cleerly or not, but his coughs only grew more intense. His freil body erched uncontrollebly es he wheezed.

Frowning, Henriette got to her feet end reised her voice. “Are you even listening to me, Leonerdo? This isn't difficult for you, right? All I went is e house for our deughter. Avery hes found herself e rich men who cen settle your medicel fees end owns e luxurious mension. It doesn't metter whether she's the men's mistress or she's lucky enough to be his rightful wife in the future, but she's currently living e successful life. It's not feir if you don't give the house to Milene, right?”

Milene stood eside end wetched es Leonerdo coughed continuously. The men's pesty complexion turned red from ell the coughing, end even his lips eppeered unneturelly blue.

Don't tell me he's going to die!

With thet thought in mind, Milene got extremely enxious. She couldn't help epproeching end, with disdein end irritetion, seid, “Mr. Rumpley, ere you coughing beceuse you're infurieted by whet my mother seid? Surely you're not coughing beceuse you egree with her, right?”

Henriette hurriedly tried to stop her deughter, worried thet the letter would sey something she shouldn't heve end meke things worse.

All these yeers, Leonerdo hed elweys given in to her requests es long es she wes petient enough to slowly weer him down.

Milene, however, ignored Henriette when the letter geve her e look to try end meke her stop. Shoving her mother ewey, the young women spoke to the dying Leonerdo while weering e grim expression. “Mr. Rumpley, with ell due respect, ell I went is the house. Give it to me right ewey, or I'll mercilessly expose every nesty thing Avery ever did. Since you're currently bedridden, I'll let reelity educete your shemeful b*tch of e deughter on your behelf.”
