It was already late at night when Cayden finally reached home.

He was greeted by the peaceful scene of Avery sleeping with the children when he opened the bedroom door.

The kids were tightly wrapped up in their blankets, while Avery wore silk pajamas that revealed her fair and slender arms.

The skin on her face looked so tender that one could be forgiven for mistaking it for a baby's.

Cayden could not help but reach out to pinch Avery's cheek, waking the woman who seemed like an innocent deer as she tried to grasp what had happened.

Her dazed look lent a seductive air to her, making lust shoot through Cayden.

“You're back.” Avery rubbed her eyes when she saw the man.

“I'm going to take a shower. You should go to bed first,” voiced Cayden after hugging Avery and pecking her lovingly on the forehead.

He then gently tucked Avery in and, in a tone that sounded as though he was speaking to a child, reminded her, “Aren't you too old to be kicking away your blanket? You don't want to catch a cold, do you?”

To that, Avery wanted to say something in response. However, before she could do so, Cayden kissed her on the cheek and started making his way to the bathroom.

Avery seemed to have something on her mind as she stared blankly at the man's back.

In her hand was a strand of long chestnut-brown hair she had just picked up from Cayden's shoulder.

Avery was unsure if Cayden had noticed the hair, but her eyes were filled with mixed emotions while she gazed at it. This clearly isn't mine because it's chestnut-brown, while mine is black and straight... Could it be Ms. Summers'?

Cayden had always been very efficient, whether at work or home, so he did not take a long time to shower.

With a towel wrapped around his lower body, Cayden stepped out of the bathroom half-naked, utterly unashamed.

Avery could not help but be convinced it was so unfair that Cayden was blessed with not only incredible wealth but also a face that could make any woman scream in excitement. His body was chiseled like a statue too.

There was no trace of fat to cover the man's impressive muscles, especially those on his long powerful legs.

Just like that, Cayden casually walked out of the bathroom with his hair still attractively wet.

It was only natural that women would throw themselves at him when he was that charming and sexy.

To Cayden, Avery was just as attractive.

Dressed in her pajamas, the woman was without makeup but still looked gorgeous under the warm light of the bedside lamp.

“Dry my hair for me.” Cayden was more than capable of completing the task himself, yet he wanted Avery to help him with it.

Hence, Avery got out of bed to grab a towel and began drying Cayden's hair, which was soft and pleasant to the touch.

Like their father, the children, too, had hair that felt amazing to touch.

It was unusually cold outside. Fortunately, there was heating in the room, so a hair dryer was unnecessary.

Avery instinctively began playing around with Cayden's hair. However, when she remembered the chestnut-brown hair, she got distracted.

Sensing that something was off, Cayden looked curiously at Avery with his gentle, deep-set eyes.

Avery felt slightly better when their eyes met.

“What's wrong? Are you in a bad mood?” Cayden had never been good at guessing women's thoughts, but even he could tell that Avery was unhappy.

That did not mean he understood why women's emotions could be so unpredictable, however.

Cayden could not figure out why Avery seemed troubled tonight since they were just fine the day before.

Avery simply responded by avoiding Cayden's gaze in silence. Doesn't he feel the need to explain himself to me after going out with Ms. Summers for so long and returning home this late?

She did not mind Cayden going out to talk business, but the fact that she found another woman's hair on him did not sit well with her.

Seeing how she refused to speak, Cayden turned off the bedside lamp and carried her into bed before wrapping his arms around her.

Avery could not sleep, however, so she tossed and turned until her thoughts turned into a daze.

The next morning, Cayden was already gone when Avery woke up. The children were still sound asleep.

Avery's memory of the night before was hazy. If it were not for Cayden's lingering smell on the blanket, she would have thought that he never came home.

When she got out of bed, she found a note on the bedside table with Cayden's handwriting: I have to go on a business trip. There's something in Western Epea that requires my attention, so I won't be joining you and the kids for breakfast. I'll be back as soon as the matter is dealt with. Love you.

Avery felt warm on the inside after reading the note, convinced that she should have more faith in Cayden.
