After dropping the children off at school, Xavier continued driving while Avery, who was sitting in the back seat, rolled down the window and allowed the cold wind to brush against her face.

Because of the speed of the car, the breeze felt like blades that slashed against Avery's tender skin. Although it hurt, it kept her mind clear.

There was a sparkle in Xavier's eyes as he advised, “Ms. Avery, it's cold outside. Mr. Moore will find fault with me if you catch a cold.”

Avery simply shook her head and shut her eyes, saying nothing.

Her silence left Xavier puzzled. Did she get into a fight with Mr. Moore? I suppose not.

Xavier had been working for Cayden for many years. He knew how important Avery was to the latter.

She's someone Mr. Moore loves and wants to give the whole world to. There's no way he would fight with her.

Meanwhile, at the mall, Allie, who was wearing an elegant white fur coat and carrying two large shopping bags in her hands, was paying her bill at the counter with two other ladies whom she was close with.

The shopping bags were filled with the latest luxury items.

Apart from going for facials and spa sessions, Allie also loved shopping. She believed having money and spending it was one of the biggest joys in life.

She was done experiencing poverty in the past.

In the first half of her life, she successfully seduced Cayden's father by relying on her beauty and skills. She threatened Bruce with Cayden to make him marry her, which finally allowed her to enjoy life as a rich wife.

She did not care if she was ridiculed by the public for being a mistress, nor was she bothered that Bruce's actual wife was still alive.

All that mattered was that she had a position in the Moore family.

Not only did Allie become more powerful than Lily, who came from a rich family, but she also managed to make Cayden gain complete control over Trident Group. In other words, she was set for the rest of her life.

Now that Leonardo was dead, the stain in her life, too, had vanished. Allie felt that her life was worth it.

However, when it was her turn to swipe her card, the employee informed her, “I'm sorry, Mrs. Moore. The balance on your card is insufficient. Would you like to try again later?”

Allie slammed her card on the counter arrogantly, giving the employee the shock of her life. “Do you know who I am? How can there be insufficient balance?”

Truth was, Cayden had set a limit on his mother's card to prevent her from overspending.

After all, money does not grow on trees.

The finance department would only transfer ten million into Allie's account every month, and that would be it once she spent them all.

Unfortunately, Allie had a bad habit of comparing herself to others, which made her spend extravagantly. That was how she had spent all that money from that month in a flash.

Dorothy, one of the women who went shopping with Allie, stood up for her. “Hey, you'd better not mess with the wrong person. Her son's very rich. In fact, it won't do you any good if you mess with Mrs. Moore.”

Another friend of Allie's, Jolie, cast the employee a look of disdain. “You're just a filthy employee. How dare you disrespect Mrs. Moore? Are you trying to get yourself fired?”

The employee gazed at the trio in bewilderment. I'm only telling the truth. How am I disrespecting Mrs. Moore?

Exasperated, she showed them the checklist and the notification that stated Allie's bank card had insufficient balance. “Mrs. Moore, I'm not lying to you. You really do have insufficient balance. Look. Your items cost a total of one million and forty-nine thousand, and the notification states that your balance is not sufficient to pay for it.”

Allie's face fell. Immediately, she called Xavier, ordering him to tell the finance department to transfer more money to her.

To her horror, Xavier said, “Sure, that can be done, but you have to contact Mr. Moore first. I can only contact the finance department once Mr. Moore consents to it.”

After cursing him, Allie had no choice but to dial Cayden's number, but his phone was turned off at that critical moment.

Just as both sides were at an impasse, Nicole, who had disguised herself and was walking around the mall with her manager, suddenly entered the store.

She admired Cayden. Naturally, she had studied everything about his family, which allowed her to spot his mother in an instant.

Although Allie was over middle age, she was still in good shape, and the luxurious fur coat gave her a rather elegant vibe.

However, she behaved in a mean and rough manner, making her no different from any commoner.

Nicole could not help but think that Allie was too different from her graceful and outstanding adoptive mother, Claire.

Regardless, women like Allie presented an advantage for others. Her weakness was too obvious that it allowed others to brainwash and approach her easily.

In the past, Nicole had hated and would avoid women like Allie. However, she decided to approach Allie then because she was Cayden's mother.

“I'll pay for her,” offered Nicole, placing a gold card on the counter. She then smiled brightly at Allie and introduced herself. “Hello, you're Cayden's mother, right? I'm Nicole Lambert, Cayden's friend, and the ambassador for his company's new perfume.”

Allie could not help but scrutinize Nicole, who had offered to pay for her.

Nicole looked different from average influencers with sharp features. She had a pretty and delicate face, a pair of rosy lips, thin eyebrows, and large eyes that crinkled when she smiled, which made her look sweet.

Dorothy leaned over and whispered into Allie's ear, “Nicole is a superstar, and her backer is someone powerful. Apparently, her father is William Lambert, the state secretary.”

Dorothy was familiar with the women in the entertainment industry, thanks to her husband, who always flirted with D-list celebrities. Naturally, she knew who Nicole was. She had a strong impression of Nicole, who had a powerful backer yet could not become famous no matter what. She figured it was best to warn Allie about Nicole beforehand.

Upon discovering Nicole's identity, Allie suddenly put on a bright smile on her expressionless face. “I used to think you were too pretty on screen. Well, who would've known you'd look prettier in person? Ah, I feel bad for letting you pay on my behalf. I'll make sure Cayden pays you back once I get home.”

Nicole responded maturely, “You don't have to be so polite with me, Mrs. Moore.”

“You're such a considerate lady, but this is more than a million. It's not a tiny amount.” Allie held Nicole's hand in a friendly manner, having no intentions of letting it go.

A sweet smile immediately appeared on Nicole's face. “It's okay. You can take it as a gift from me for meeting you for the first time.”
