When Jeffrey heard Cayden insisting on marrying Avery, he fumed and smacked his cane at him. “You undutiful grandson! How can you say you want to marry a woman with such a terrible reputation? Are you trying to bring shame to the Moore family? Do you want to make us the laughingstock of Ackleton?”

Cayden was standing straight, but the words that came out of his mouth only made Jeffrey even angrier. “Grandpa, do our family even have any reputation to speak of now?”

Then, Cayden glanced at his mother and Lily, who were both sitting on the couch. The tension in the room was almost palpable.

It was clear what Cayden was talking about.

Which modern family would have two wives, after all?

Jeffrey was furious with Cayden's words he nearly choked. Kendrick promptly intervened, “Grandpa, the doctor said you shouldn't get emotional at your age. You have to control your temper, or else you'll have to be hospitalized for a few days... Ah!”

Suddenly, Jeffrey whacked Kendrick's head, making the latter howl in pain before staring at Jeffrey with pitiful eyes.

In a foul mood, Jeffrey shot Kendrick a glare and snapped, “Get lost. Your brother is making me angry, and it's not like you're any better either. You have countless scandals with female celebrities. Do you dare think that I'm old and unable to rein you in anymore?”

Kendrick fell silent.

Isn't Cayden the target for this session? Something is wrong, Grandpa. Why are you lecturing me instead?

When Lily saw her beloved son getting lectured, she could not hold herself back anymore. “Dad, that's where you're wrong. Who's the one stopping Kendrick from handling the company matters? Cayden's the one managing everything in Trident Group, and Kendrick's only a general manager in name. There's no way Kendrick will be happy with how explicitly biased you are. Is it such a shock to you that he's trying to find happiness out there with some women instead? If Kendrick takes over Trident Group...”

Every time Lily thought about that, anger would bubble in her.

My son's the real son of the Moore family, but Allie's sly son's the one handling the entire company's operation. I've been tolerating this for years! How can I possibly be willing to submit just like that? To Lily, all of the Moore family's assets should belong to Kendrick, and Allie and her illegitimate son should be kicked out of the family.

However, Kendrick felt annoyed when he heard his mother suggesting that he should take over the company. In an irritated tone, he said, “Mom, I can't do that. The company will probably collapse in a few days if I was the one handling it, let alone leading the company to see better days. I have no desire to see the Moore family's business die in my hands. Don't mention me taking over Trident Group ever again, or else I'll never come back anymore.”

Meanwhile, Allie was watching Lily and her son with a smug look.

Even if Lily is Bruce's legitimate wife, so what? Her son's a good-for-nothing.

Jeffrey knew that they had wronged Lily and her son, but Kendrick was uninterested in the family business. Moreover, he did not have the capability and charm to be a successful entrepreneur.

Talent was required for business management. Jeffrey had once forked out a huge sum of money to let Kendrick handle a few of Trident Group's branches, but all of them ended up in bankruptcy.

Jeffrey could not imagine leaving such a big company like Trident Group in Kendrick's hands. The company was certainly not going to expand as well as it was at that moment. As a matter of fact, the company might be gone in a matter of months.

“That's enough. Kendrick, from now on, you have to learn how to manage a business from your brother. I don't want to see you wasting the rest of your life like this,” Jeffrey sternly said after a sigh.

Instantly, Kendrick let out a howl of despair. “No way! Grandpa, I don't want to join the company. I still want to have more fun! I—”

“Brat, you're already twenty-seven! Is there nothing but fun in your head? Are you trying to give me a heart attack by making me mad all the time?”

When Kendrick saw his grandfather about to throw his cane at him again, he quickly clamped his mouth shut.

Seriously! Grandpa's habit of hitting people with his cane is such a bad one. He has to get rid of it.

In contrast, Cayden never even furrowed his brows during the conversation. He was calmly listening to their argument, having gotten used to it after all those years.

At the end of the day, being with Avery makes me feel at home. The thought of Avery made a soft look flash past Cayden's eyes.

Hence, he determinedly expressed his stance to the Moores. “Grandpa, Mom, I'm only here to tell you my decision. I will have no one but Avery in this lifetime. This will be my answer even if you disagree with it.”

With that, Cayden led the two children up the stairs.

The atmosphere in the living room was tense, and he did not want to linger there even one second more than he needed to.

The words Jeffrey had wanted to say in retort were stuck in his throat when he saw his grandson leaving. His anger spiked, and he began shaking.

Cayden frowned and turned to look at the livid Jeffrey. “Kendrick, get Yuvan to come over and start a treatment plan for Grandpa.”

Meanwhile, Allie was equally furious as her expression darkened. Whenever she thought about what kind of person Avery was, she felt disgusted.

Regardless of all, she was not going to let Avery become her daughter-in-law.
