When Cayden and his family walked toward the private room, an elegant, purebred, long-haired cat was resting on a fur rug. The cat's long and gorgeous white fur blended in with the rug.

Avery didn't notice the cat and almost stepped on its tail with her high heels. The cat was awakened from its nap, and its fur stood upright from being startled.

Swiftly, it jumped up and hissed at Avery to assert dominance. It shocked her.

When she was backing away from the cat, she accidentally twisted her ankle and lost her balance. If it weren't for Cayden, who caught her as she fell backward, she would've crashed heavily onto the ground.

“Are you all right?” Cayden held Avery in his arms and glared at the culprit with a piercing look.

However, the cat wasn't intimidated by the domineering-looking man at all.

It shuddered its snow-white fur nonchalantly and glanced at the family of four with its round, azure eyes. Its behavior was as elegant as an arrogant noblewoman.

Cute and fluffy animals were always irresistible to young ladies.

Therefore, Rory squatted down in excitement and stared right into the cat's eyes. Then, she reached her tiny hands out to touch its soft fur. “Woah! Mommy, this kitty is so pretty!”

Surprisingly, the cat seemed to enjoy being petted. It purred and allowed Rory to continue caressing it.

“Rory, this is a purebred, long-haired cat. I've seen it in pictures before. It's adorable!” Zachary liked the cat as well, so he went to pet the cat's head alongside Rory.

Since Jeffrey disliked animals, no pets were allowed in the Moore residence. When Zachary and Rory saw such a beautiful cat, they were intrigued by it instinctively. Instantly, they played happily with the cat and didn't want to leave.

Looking at the children who were having the time of their lives, Avery felt amused yet helpless.

She walked forward to help the children up. However, she felt an excruciating pain in her left ankle, causing her to lose the ability to stand up straight.

After hearing Avery let out a sound caused by the pain, Cayden looked at her left leg.

“Don't move!” he instructed.

He carried Avery to a stool beside them and gently removed her shoes and socks. After seeing her tiny ankle was red and swollen, he frowned and squeezed it lightly. Then, he heard her inhale sharply.

Cayden comforted Avery and said, “Don't worry. It's just a sprain, and you didn't hurt your bones.”

“Okay.”

Zachary ran over to Cayden and Avery, then asked, “Daddy, Mommy, can Rory and I take this kitty home with us? I love it so much!”

Although Zachary was a boy, he actually loved these charming and adorable cats more than Rory did. Seeing that the cat wasn't owned by anyone, Zachary had the idea of bringing it home and making it his pet.

“We can't bring it home.” Before Cayden spoke, Avery educated Zachary gently. “This is someone else's cat, and it has an owner. If we brought it home without saying a word, the owner would be sad when they couldn't find it. Besides, if we take someone else's belongings without permission, it means we're stealing. Stealing is bad and illegal. Zach, if you and Rory love cats, we'll buy you one when we get home, all right?”

“But Great-grandpa doesn't allow pets.” Zachary was slightly disappointed.

“It's okay. We can keep it in another house since your great-grandpa doesn't like it.” Avery blinked and patted Zachary's head.

“Yes! You're the best, Mommy!” Zachary was overjoyed when he got permission to keep a cat.

He ran back to Rory and tugged her arm. “Rory, Mommy said we can keep a cat! Are you glad?”

Rory kissed the cat in her arms before rolling her eyes at Zachary. “Of course I'm happy. But I really want to take this kitty home...”

Just as Rory finished her sentence, the cat leaped out of her arms and hopped into the arms of a young lady who had just shown up.

The young lady was in her early twenties. She was a good-looking woman who was wearing a waitress' uniform. She had long and curly eyelashes. Her large, round eyes were bright like stars and clear as crystals.

Yet, she seemed extremely shy. “Sorry to disturb you. This is my cat. I didn't expect it to sneak out even though I'd already locked it in its cage. I'm really sorry for causing you to sprain your ankle. Please forgive me. Miss, I-I can bear the cost of your medical fee.”

The young lady carried the cat in her arms and got anxious when she saw Avery's swollen ankle.

Also, she seemed to be afraid of men.

Throughout the entire time, the young lady didn't dare look at the fierce-looking Cayden. She merely fixated her pitiful gaze on Avery and the children while pursing her lips nervously.
