Dylan stared at Avery's angry expression and chuckled.

There was not a single trace of guilt in his eyes.

Instead, he sounded slightly bitter as he said, “Avery, I noticed you have never smiled when you're with me. You're either showing me your poker face or, like now, looking as if you want to kill me. Why are you so mad at me when I didn't even do anything to Nina? Do you care for her so much? Is it worth getting angry for her?”

Right after he finished saying that, he received another slap from Avery across the cheek.

Her hand trembled after slapping him as if she could never relieve her anger no matter how many times she slapped him.

Avery's eyes turned bloodshot from the overwhelming fury. “How dare you say you did nothing to Nina? Dylan, are you even human? If you didn't send someone to kidnap Nina, she wouldn't have been violated! She wouldn't have gotten pregnant, and that culprit wouldn't force her to undergo an abortion! You are the culprit behind everything, so don't you dare make it sound like you have nothing to do with this!”

There were still plenty of people going in and out of the office lobby at that time.

Avery's voice was so loud that the receptionists and employees who passed by the lobby could hear their conversation clearly.

Most of them glanced at Avery with shocked and complicated gazes, especially the two receptionists standing closest to them. They wished they could pretend to be deaf.

What did she say? Is she implying that Mr. Musk had kidnapped someone? Moreover, did she say some other girl was raped and forced to undergo an abortion because of him? My goodness!

The information they received from overhearing the conversation was too much to handle, and they wished they could act like they heard nothing.

Meanwhile, Dylan felt warm liquid seeping out from the corner of his lips. He licked it with the tip of his tongue and realized he was bleeding.

How cruel of her! It seems like she has never bothered showing me mercy!

At that moment, it dawned on Dylan that Avery was kind and protective toward everyone except for him. She would behave gently and patiently even when talking to a beggar on the streets.

However, she had never once bothered smiling at him. Her expression was always indifferent and aloof. He could also feel her intense hatred for him through her tone when she talked to him.

Sure enough, he knew she had never developed any feelings for him.

The fact that a woman could be so heartless to a man was an eye-opener for Dylan.

“I admit I do hold certain responsibility for what happened to Nina.” Dylan ignored the judgmental glances from the passersby and looked unfazed as he asked, “So what? What do you want me to do? Do you want me to compensate her, or are you planning to sue me?”

Naturally, he could predict what would happen to Nina if she had fallen into the hands of the lustful Aaron.

But still, he decided to hand Nina over to Aaron. That woman can only blame this upon herself since she had the guts to even think of sending Avery picture evidence of me having an affair.

Even if Dylan could turn back time, he would still make the same decision.

Avery was enraged when she saw Dylan not taking this matter seriously. She trembled all over as she said coldly, “Dylan, I want you to pay for what you did! You must be responsible for Nina!”

Hearing that, Dylan nonchalantly crossed his arms. “Oh? Responsible for her? How? Should I marry her?”

For a moment there, Avery was at a loss for words.

What a scoundrel!

Dylan was standing too close to her, and she could smell the refreshing scent on her body, which made her uneasy and disgusted.

In fact, she hated getting too close to every other man with the exception of Cayden.

She wanted to take a few steps backward, but Dylan gripped her arm and forcibly pulled her toward the elevator.

He quickly pressed the elevator button and said in a gruff voice, “It's inconvenient to talk in public. Let's move this conversation to my office.”

“I'm sorry, but we don't need to go elsewhere! We can talk here!” Avery shook him off as if he were a venomous snake.

She never trusted Dylan. As a matter of fact, she even feared him so much that she did not want to be alone in the same room with him.

With a ding, the elevator arrived at their floor. Dylan let out a low snicker and dragged Avery into the elevator.

“Ahh! Get lost! Don't touch me! No...” Avery screamed and struggled to break free.

She got reminded of the scene where he almost violated her the other night. Like a mad woman, she flailed her limbs frantically and landed kicks and punches at Dylan. Her reaction was so strong that even Dylan staggered a few steps backward.

“Avery! Listen, I will not touch you again without your permission. I swear on that! Please calm down!” Dylan's heart ached when he saw how afraid Avery was of him.

He grabbed Avery's shoulders, shaking her violently to make her snap back to reality.

Meeting Dylan's sad and helpless eyes, Avery was startled and stared at him blankly.

She saw her disheveled appearance through the reflection in his eyes.

Pressing her hand against the elevator wall and biting her lip, she took several deep breaths and forced herself to calm down. I'm so foolish. Although Dylan was primarily responsible for Nina's incident, there's nothing I can change by coming here to confront him.

She did not have evidence to prove he kidnapped Nina. Also, it had been a long time since the incident happened. Dylan would have destroyed the evidence by now. At most, she could only make Dylan pay for Nina's monetary losses and medical fees.

If she could not even deal with Dylan, she could only dream of dealing with the abuser, who was also the second son of the powerful and wealthy Gibson family.

She might even put herself in danger if she did that.

However, she was willing to sacrifice herself in order to seek justice for Nina.

Nina had suffered much more than that because of her. The things Avery could do for her in return were too insignificant.

Her concern was that she could not threaten Aaron when she had no one to back her up. Even if she intended to sacrifice her life, she was in no power to make Aaron listen to her.

She was well aware that those in power who despised authority would not bother abiding by the law, let alone morality.
