The next day was Saturday, so Avery brought the twins to visit her grandfather after having breakfast.

Cayden initially planned on going with them, but he received an urgent call while they were en route and had to make a detour back to the office.

Nonetheless, he was determined to have lunch with them at noon.

In the face of his apology, Avery brushed it off considerately. After all, the man was the CEO of a multinational company, so the burden on his shoulders was exceedingly heavy.

In fact, she felt really bad for him. At the very least, I've got two days off a week. But when he gets busy, he works day and night like a beaver without any time to rest.

Cayden instructed his driver, Leif, to send Avery and the two children over.

The residential area where Blake lived was located at West Chimera Lake Scenic Area. It was adjacent to a mountain and lake, so the air there was refreshing and the environment lush. The hustle and bustle of the city were far away, but there were all sorts of facilities nearby, including a large hospital, nursing home, park, chain supermarket, and so on.

Back when Cayden chose a place for Blake, he took into account the accessibility of basic necessities while satisfying the latter's desire for serenity.

As soon as Avery and the twins got out of the car, they were greeted by the sight of a group of elderly people gathered at the open space in the park by the entrance of the residential area, dancing leisurely.

Among them was Blake.

He seemed to be in the pink of health. Alina was also there. She supported him and spoke to him from time to time.

Inadvertently lifting her head, she spotted Avery.

The latter carried a lot of presents while holding the hands of a pair of stunningly beautiful twins, dressed casually with her hair pulled back in a ponytail. Without any makeup, she looked pure and stood out among the crowd.

“Grandpa. Aunt Alina.”

With her children by her side, Avery fixated her eyes on the hale and hearty Blake and the slightly pale Alina, her voice a tad low.

Tugging on Blake's sleeve, Alina murmured, “Ery and her kids are here to visit you, Dad.”

“My granddaughter is here? You haven't been here to visit me in a long time! Quick, come and let me see whether you've lost weight.” Blake beckoned at Avery in delight. He wore a smile on his face, his eyes brimming with love and affection.

Avery walked over with the twins.

At the sight of Blake's gray hair, her eyes stung. “I'm sorry, Grandpa. I've been rather busy these days, so I couldn't take the time to come and visit you. In the future, I'll try my best to come every week.”

“What a silly girl! I know you're busy with work, and life isn't easy for you out there. If you're really too busy that you can't come over, just give me a call. I'm content with just that.”

However, Blake's words made Avery feel all the more discomfited.

I swear I'll come and visit him often in the future so that he isn't too lonely.

“Zach, Rory, come here. They are your great-grandad and your grand-aunt. Be good and greet them.” Avery stroked the twins' heads.

“Great-grandad, Grand-aunt. Good morning.” The siblings then introduced themselves in unison.

At the same time, they even mischievously blew a flying kiss at Blake and Alina.

“How obedient!” Blake took a great liking to the beautiful and sensible twins.

As a matter of fact, he had learned about Avery's circumstances from his daughter.

The fact that his granddaughter chose to be a surrogate in order to save his son's life had him feeling both guilty and touched.

Seeing the twins, who were smart and quick-witted, he grinned widely since he loved children in the first place.

He sat on the bench and put on his glasses. Cradling the twins' faces in his age-wizened hands, he studied them carefully. “How similar! You're both simply too good-looking, a carbon copy of my granddaughter when she was young!”

“Did Mommy look like us when she was young, Great-grandad?” Zachary inquired adorably.

“Yup. Your mommy was as pretty as a picture when she was young, just like you both. Wherever she went, everyone complimented her. At that time, she had two pigtails and behaved like an angel. Other kids always cried, but she never made a fuss. Instead, she started helping me with chores at a tender age. In the blink of an eye, she already has children your age.”

Blake reminisced about Avery's childhood while gazing at the two children's faces that resembled his granddaughter's with an affectionate expression on his face.

“Let's go home first, Grandpa.” Upon hearing her grandfather's continual praises of her, Avery felt somewhat uneasy.

A smile bloomed on Alina's face as she looked at her niece. Supporting Blake alongside Avery, she headed toward the mansions in the residential area.

The elderly men and women exercising at the side called out to Blake enthusiastically, “Blake! Is this your granddaughter, Blake? Is she here to visit you?”

“Yes, this is my granddaughter, Avery. And these two kids are my great-grandchildren.”
