Cayden gathered Avery into his arms.

Wrapping his long and strong arm around her slender waist, he swooped in and planted a loving kiss on her.

With the rich fragrance of cream as well as the tang of cherries and strawberries in their mouths, they seemingly found the kiss better than usual.

His kiss was truly too tender that Avery lost herself for a moment.

In the gentle embrace and soft lighting, she noticed that his long eyelashes were rendered almost transparent in the bright light. The expression on his face was so adoring that her heart skipped several beats.

The passionate kiss lasted for an eternity.

Only when Cayden's hand started slipping beneath her clothes did Avery abruptly snap out of her haze of passion. “Cayden, let's... eat cake first, okay?”

The handsome and seductive man held her body domineeringly, his hoarse voice tinged with a hint of darkness. “The thing I want to eat most right now is you.”

That single remark sent Avery's heartbeat into overdrive, and her face flushed bright red.

Inadvertently glimpsing that the two children were gone, she immediately broke free from his hug. “Um... Let's celebrate my birthday first. Where are Zach and Rory?”

In truth, she had always been afraid to see such a look in Cayden's eyes.

In that instant, his gaze radiated the intense desire of a beast allowed out of its cage, making one flustered.

The sea of flowers in the room became their backdrop, light illuminating the entire space.

Under the lights, Avery's shyness and slight panic were bared in their entirety.

She was anxious to search for her two children, but Cayden grabbed her hand. “They didn't want to interrupt our romantic interlude, so they went off to play. Don't worry, for they won't get lost in the house. Keep me company tonight, Avery.”

“I keep you company every day!” Avery's heart pounded like a jackhammer, and her sweet voice betrayed her uneven breathing.

“It's different.” Cayden gently brushed a long and slender finger across her lips before crushing his lips on hers hard.

Subsequently, he took out an exquisite box from his pocket.

When he opened it, a beautiful and dazzling diamond ring appeared before Avery.

“Will you marry me, Avery?” Suddenly dropping to a knee on the ground, Cayden finally gave voice to the words he had kept hidden deep within his heart for ages in a gentlemanly and elegant manner.

Gazing at the massive diamond on the ring that was shiny to the point of blinding, Avery couldn't quite believe her eyes.

Its workmanship was really exquisite. With eighteen small diamonds surrounding a big diamond, it appeared stunning beyond words.

Touched, she teetered on the verge of tears. She clapped a hand over her mouth tightly. He's actually proposing to me?

In that second, she was stunned and even wondered whether it was a dream until Cayden stood up.

The man's tall figure shrouded her petite figure. Only when he slipped the diamond ring on her finger did she jolt back to her senses. Oh my God, it turns out that he has really proposed to me!

Cayden's fine hair brushed against Avery's lovely cheeks. “Did you come back to your senses, silly? If you remain silent, it means that you consent to my proposal. From now on, you're my wife, mine for all eternity. Don't ever think of escaping me in this lifetime, okay?”

“Cayden...” Avery was still looking rather dazed.

The look in her eyes was complicated as she stared at the diamond ring of the perfect size on her ring finger.

She had never expected the man to propose to her then.

It wasn't that she didn't want to marry him, but there were too many obstacles between them. In fact, she had braced herself to wait for a long time.

On top of that, she even felt that she would be content without marriage and status as long as he stayed with her and the children forever.

“I'm pretty swamped with work recently. When things calm down, I'll prepare a grand wedding for you. I want to announce to the whole world that you're my woman. Will you marry me, Avery?” Cayden asked once more, pressing the tip of his nose against hers.

His gaze was bright and penetrating.

It was a simple promise, yet it carried an innate sense of domineering possessiveness.

Avery's ebony eyes shimmered, and her long eyelashes fluttered, rendering her extraordinarily enthralling.

Interlocking her fingers with his, she parted her ruby lips a fraction and gave him her vow, enunciating, “Yes. As long as you love me and vice versa, we'll defeat all who stand in our path. Isn't that so? I'm willing to marry you and take care of you and our two kids for the rest of my life, Cayden.”

Although her words were plain, they were simply too heartfelt. Cayden responded with an ardent kiss.

Next, he carried her to the bedroom and placed her on the bed, pinning her under his towering and solid body.

Only then did Avery belatedly gather her wits about her. “Zach and Rory are still in the living room. They—”

“Don't worry, for they aren't kids anymore. When it's their bedtime, they'll automatically go back to their room and sleep.” After saying that, Cayden again silenced her unfinished utterance with his lips.
