Avery felt a strong urge to smash her phone as it wouldn't stop ringing, but she didn't dare do so because it contained crucial evidence on Cayden.

Eventually, Avery gave in and answered the phone.

The person on the other line screamed angrily the moment the call got through, “Hey, Avery! Since you had the guts to ignore me, you have only yourself to blame for what I'm about to do! I'm outside the Department of Justice right now with a disk containing evidence! I'll hand this disk over and destroy Cayden's reputation!”

Fearing that Avery wouldn't believe her, she even sent a picture over just to prove her point.

It was a selfie of a woman wearing sunglasses taken outside the Department of Justice.

She had a gleeful smile on her face and a disk in her hand.

Avery felt her heart racing when she saw the picture.

Cayden's life will be destroyed if she hands that disk over to the Department of Justice! As powerful and capable as Cayden may be, there's no way he could turn this situation around!

Avery tightened her grip on the phone as she stammered anxiously, “N-No, please don't do that! Don't hand the disk over! I'll do anything you ask! I'll call off my engagement with Cayden tomorrow and leave Ackleton! T-There, are you satisfied?”

Her tone was filled with fear and helplessness, but the woman on the other line did not show her any sympathy whatsoever.

“It's too late to beg me now! None of this would've happened if you had just left Cayden from the beginning! I gave you a chance, but you chose to throw it away! Do you really think you can fix this just by leaving him?” she snapped back at her with a sneer.

Anxious and frustrated, Avery raised her voice a little as she asked, “What the h*ll do you want?”

“Aw, look at you, getting all worked up. I want you to attend the engagement with Cayden as planned tomorrow. When the guests have all arrived, however, you will cancel the engagement and humiliate Cayden in front of everyone!”

Avery froze after hearing that.

She had assumed the woman would be satisfied with her leaving Cayden, only to have that woman make an even crazier request.

As if canceling the engagement wasn't bad enough, she wants me to humiliate Cayden in public? She might as well just kill me instead!

Avery was biting down on her lip so hard that it nearly bled. “No way! I can leave Ackleton if you want me to, but I will not cancel the engagement and humiliate him in public!”

Cayden has a very strong sense of pride, so I can't humiliate him in public! Not only would the Moore family no longer accept me, but Cayden would also hate me so much that we would never be able to get back together!

“Oh my, aren't you a loyal woman? Do you think you're in a position to bargain with me? Well, think again! If you don't do as I say, I will hand this disk over to the authorities right now! Imagine what would happen if the people of Ackleton found out that the legendary Cayden Moore is actually guilty of bribery! Hahaha!” said the woman on the phone with a sarcastic chuckle.

Avery then received a short video clip on her phone a few seconds later.

The woman could be seen walking up to the secretary's office in the Department of Justice with the disk in hand.

Avery screamed at the top of her lungs, “Fine! I'll do anything you say! I'll cancel my engagement with Cayden tomorrow and humiliate him in public, so stop where you are!”

“I'll be present at the engagement ceremony tomorrow, so you'd better not try anything funny. I'm sure you know what will happen if you do!” the woman threatened before hanging up on her.

Avery was so shocked that she didn't even realize when she dropped the phone on the floor.

She just stood there by the window and stared blankly at the clouds in the sky. Before she knew it, the sky had turned dark and was filled with stars.

Avery's heart was plunged into despair when she recalled the excited look in Cayden's eyes when they tested out her wedding outfit yesterday.

As their engagement ceremony was tomorrow, Cayden finished his work early and went straight home that evening.

The living room of the mansion was filled with the fragrant aroma of borscht.

Zachary and Rory were sitting on the couch and playing video games on their tablets.

After making his way into the living room, Cayden took off his coat and casually tossed it onto the adjacent couch.

“Zach, Rory, where's your mommy?” he asked when he didn't see Avery anywhere.

As Zachary and Rory were in the middle of an intense match in-game, they were a little distracted as they replied, “Mommy isn't feeling well, so she's resting in her bedroom. She told Rory and me not to disturb her.”

Cayden frowned in confusion when he heard that. Avery was just fine when I called her earlier this morning, though. Why would she be unwell all of a sudden?

Instead of checking on her right away, Cayden made his way into the kitchen and tried to make dinner. Because he had never done any chores around the house, it took him quite a while to have dinner ready.

Cayden then told the kids to go ahead and eat while he brought a serving of steak and mushroom soup to the bedroom upstairs.

Avery's slender body was curled up into a ball underneath the blanket. There were tears in the corners of her eyes, which were tightly shut.

As though she was having a nightmare, her long eyelashes would flutter from time to time, making her seem a lot more tired than usual.
