When Allie spotted the disbelief on Nicole's countenance, she realized the latter didn't know Avery was pregnant. I wish I could slap my big mouth right now! Why did I tell her that? What if a crack is formed in Nicole's relationship with Cayden because of this unborn child?

Thus, she leaned on the couch, held Nicole's hand, and coaxed, “The baby was purely an accident. None of us expected it to happen. Only someone as shameless as Avery can do something as embarrassing as getting pregnant before marriage. However, you don't need to worry about that. The Moore family is capable enough to raise multiple children, much less just one more. Your relationship with Cayden won't be disturbed because the housekeepers and I will be around to take care of the children.”

As she degraded Avery, she completely forgot that she also got pregnant before marriage.

Hearing what his wife said, Jeffrey coughed loudly.

Immediately, Allie shut her mouth. Meanwhile, Nicole didn't notice that detail because she was still in a state of shock to hear about Avery's pregnancy.

She could feel her heart bleeding. Oh, no. Another pregnancy?

Still, she smiled and pretended as though she had a big heart. “You must be jesting, Mdm. Allie. Being able to marry Cayden is a blessing. As for kids, I love them. They're cute and soft. Not to mention they smell nice. Besides, having children in a house makes the atmosphere more lively!”

“You're such a good kid, Nicole. All of Claire's efforts in raising you didn't go in vain. Your personality is exactly like hers.” Allie nodded with satisfaction. I think Nicole's pretty good. She's pretty, sensible, filial, and magnanimous! Sometimes, she even brings me gifts! She's way better than that Avery.

Gently, Nicole replied, “You're exaggerating, Mdm. Allie. There's no way I'm comparable to Mom. She's a genuine elegant woman, while I still need to study more.”

In response, Allie frowned. I still remember what Claire was like when she was younger. Back then, she was a woman with refined beauty. She was kind, gentle, innocent, and incorrigible. It's like she has all the good traits a person can possibly have. Even though the other girls and I weren't that much different compared to her when we grew up, she always appeared more exalted than us. Hence, she was constantly surrounded by sons from affluent families and high-ranking officials. While I was envious of her, I also admired her. Then, when William fell in love with her at first sight, he got engaged to her while she was still studying. Meanwhile, I was treated like a plaything by those rich men's sons. They would always end up abandoning me, regardless of how my romantic relationship with them went. When I was forced to work in a nightclub as a courtesan, I had enough of my awful life and did what I had to do. Although, I must say, seeing Claire raise someone else's daughter like a princess while her biological daughter became a laughingstock and a free baby machine for my son makes me feel so good. I feel like I've finally won for once.

Thus, she uttered a remark with double meaning. “That's right. Your mother did raise a good daughter.”

Nicole was aware her mother was once best friends with Allie, but she wasn't sure why they drifted apart and stopped being friends.

Since she wanted to please Allie, she naturally also wanted to repair her relationship with her adoptive mother. However, when she noticed the odd expression on the older woman's face after bringing up her mother, she cleverly stopped continuing that topic.

Upon seeing that her time was almost up, she said, “I still have matters to attend to later, so I won't be able to keep you and Old Mr. Moore company any longer, Mdm. Allie. Old Mr. Moore, I'll be taking my leave now. I'll visit again if I have time.”

Pulling Nicole's hand, Allie suggested, “How about you wait until Cayden returns, and I'll ask him to send you back?”

In the past, Nicole absolutely would've waited for Cayden to return. However, she had more important things to do, so she rejected the offer. “It's alright. I may not have enough time if I wait for Cayden to come back. I'll be going now.”

“Very well. Next time, call us before you visit. I'll ask the driver to pick you up,” proposed Allie with a smile as she touched the bracelet Nicole had gifted her.

Jeffrey spared a few more words with Nicole, reminding her to be careful on the road, before heading upstairs.

After Nicole left the Moore residence in her luxury car, she drove speedily down the highway.

She then called someone on the phone, telling that person she would be there in around ten minutes, and hung up.

As she narrowed her eyes, the look in her eyes became even more vicious. I can't believe that b*tch Avery is pregnant with Cayden's child. Heh, then again, it's hard to say if she'll live long enough to give birth to the baby. You want to use the child to secure your position, don't you, Avery? In that case, I'll show you just how delusional you are!

...

Considering what happened at the engagement banquet and Cayden's upcoming plan, it wouldn't be wise for Avery to show herself in public. Thus, she took a long break and cared for the baby in the new mansion.

The environment of the new mansion was great. Not only was it surrounded by various floras, but there was also a lake and a fake mountain nearby. The security there was top-notch, too. Occasionally, the children would keep her company. However, after resting for half a month, she got a little bored and wanted to go back to work.

One morning, when she was tutoring the twins, Alina called, saying George was sick and wanted her to visit.

It was then Avery recalled that every time she called her family, she only told them she was doing fine and hadn't explained her situation with Cayden to them during the past two weeks.

She didn't meet up with them after the engagement banquet because she felt contrite. The more she thought about her grandfather, the more she felt guilty.
