The gossip and rumors spread like wildfire in the office on Avery's first day at work but ceased on the second day and never resurfaced.

She didn't have to think hard to figure out that was Cayden's doing.

Avery knew all she could do at the moment was wait for her innocence to be proven.

Although Yulissa continued to treat her with hostility and constantly jeered at her, Avery didn't take it to heart.

She wasn't a weak woman. Before, she avoided direct confrontations with Yulissa out of concern that the latter was her superior. However, since the incident where Yulissa framed her, Avery gained clarity.

Avery received an update from Xavier which invigorated her.

With the right offer, there was bound to be someone who would step forward.

After a thorough investigation, Xavier came across a male student named Yosef Yarbrough.

Yosef mentioned he saw Yulissa opening a bag with a white bear toy attached and taking out some notes.

However, the examination was about to start then, and he arrived at the venue late, so he was in a hurry to enter the hall. In addition, he didn't want to be nosy and was afraid of getting into trouble, so Yosef didn't report what he saw to the examiners in time.

After the exam, he went back to his hometown to visit his severely ill grandmother.

Afterward, Xavier established contact with Yosef during his investigation and found out the latter was a witness, so he requested Yosef to testify for Avery.

Upon learning Xavier's intention, Yosef, who had identified the woman in the photo, stammered, saying he needed to stay home and care for his ill grandmother.

Hearing that, Xavier had no choice but to promise Yosef a lucrative reward if the latter was willing to give an account of the truth so he could use the money to seek treatment for his grandmother.

Yosef hesitated briefly but ultimately agreed to come forward and prove Avery's innocence for the sake of his critically ill grandmother.

Yosef could come to Ackleton from his hometown that day and was willing to accompany Avery to reveal the truth to the examiners.

Avery saw the glimmer of hope, and her mood lifted. Initially dejected, she gradually regained her composure and soon became elated.

Meanwhile, Yulissa was frantic with worry because she just received a call from one of the examiners, who informed her that Avery found a new witness who could prove her innocence. The examiner told Yulissa to visit the Department of Education at three o'clock in the afternoon. I didn't expect Avery to find a witness so soon. I thought I'd been sufficiently cautious when stealing the notes from her bag, so how could anyone have seen me? I wonder if the so-called witness is just someone Avery bribed with money.

In the end, Yulissa could only go to Wisteria's office and ask her superior for help.

Overwrought, Yulissa broke out into a cold sweat. After knocking on the door and entering the room, she cut to the chase. “Ms. Summers, Avery found a new witness. She's accusing me of false allegations. What should I do now? Can you help me out?”

She hadn't slept well the past few days, causing the dark circles under her eyes to become very prominent.

Ever since Cayden interfered in the cheating incident, Yulissa knew things would only take a turn for the worse. Still, she didn't expect it to happen so swiftly.

Wisteria abruptly put down the pen she was using to sign the documents.

She gazed at Yulissa with a haughty and disdainful expression. “Ms. Yantz, why didn't you consider the consequences before you slander others? You can only blame yourself for being so stupid as to let others get the dirt on you. You're just an idiot who only knows how to screw things up.”

Yulissa clenched her fists. “Ms. Summers, what do you mean by that? If it weren't for your hint, how could I have done such a foolish thing? Yet, you're pushing all the responsibility onto me now? How is that fair?”

Wisteria tapped the tabletop with her fingers. The contemptuous smirk on her face widened. “Yulissa, let's make things clear. You are the culprit of this incident, so how is this matter related to me? Do you have any evidence to support your claim, huh?”

Not anticipating Wisteria to be so cold-blooded and ruthless, Yulissa sneered as well. “I finally realize how vicious you are. You made me reassuring promises about how you would take the blame if anything went wrong while I did your bidding, but when the situation turned south, you were the first to shirk responsibilities. Ms. Summers, do you really think you can escape unscathed if I am exposed? Dream on! We're now two people in the same boat. If you don't help me, I may mention things I shouldn't, revealing the mastermind behind this scheme. Things will get messy if that happens.”

Hearing Yulissa's threat, Wisteria narrowed her eyes and almost crumpled up the document in her hand. “Ms. Yantz, you'd better mind your words. What do you mean we're in the same boat? Did you just accuse me of being the mastermind? You should present your evidence before saying something like that, all right? Otherwise, I can hire my lawyer to sue you!”
