Chapter 654 Who Is Avery
Layers of cold sweat continuously formed on the unconscious man's forehead.

His thick and arched eyebrows were furrowed as if he was uncomfortable, and it gave him an uneasy appearance even in slumber.

He kept murmuring a few words under his breath, “Avery, Avery...”

Cassie leaned in to listen to the man's mumbling as her hand gently caressed his feverish forehead. She turned to look at the masked doctor, her tone decidedly displeased as she inquired in Remdikian, “When will he wake up? What is he saying?”

She did not understand Chanaean, but the words he kept repeating made her feel somewhat uncomfortable.

Carefully, the doctor examined the man's condition, then slowly said in Remdikian, “Miss, the gentleman had his surgery a week ago. He should have woken up by now. However, the bullet had caused severe damage, so it might take a few more days for him to wake up. Though, this man is truly fortunate. Under such circumstances, the survival rate for ordinary people is only one in a thousand. He is indeed a lucky one.”

Cassie leaned down and kissed the man's smooth forehead. Her cold gaze emitted an inexplicable light as she said, “How could the man I fancy lie here unconscious? Wake him up as soon as possible. I can't wait to see him open his eyes.”

Ever since she secretly brought this man back, she has been covertly investigating his background.

The man's credentials left Cassie in awe. The youngest business professor from Horington University, he established a multinational corporation at a young age and turned a small company on the brink of bankruptcy into a renowned name across Aploth.

It was no wonder she felt an extraordinary aura about the man, as if he were an elite among ordinary people, when she first laid eyes on him.

Roderick was truly audacious to have dared to assassinate a man of such stature. His actions have truly stirred up huge trouble for them.

However, she also felt grateful for Roderick's audacity, for his actions had brought such an outstanding and exceptional man into her life.

“Avery, Avery...”

The unconscious sounds that emanated from the man in his stupor were hoarse yet rich, seemingly filled with an incredible depth of affection.

The incessant murmuring made Cassie furrow her brows doubtfully.

Who is Avery? Is that person someone important to him? It seems like I'll need to thoroughly investigate everything about him!

Meanwhile, at the Lambert residence, Avery suddenly clutched at her heart in the midst of her meal.

The throbbing seemed more intense than usual, and it was as if a warm current had seeped into her heart and spleen.

She could almost feel Cayden calling her name.

The meal prepared by the Lambert family today was absolutely delicious. The mushrooms were fresh and tender, the fish soup was rich and fragrant. This made Avery's appetite improve slightly.

She had some vegetables, savored a bowl of fish soup, and also had some pasta.

Although she did not eat much, it was still a significant improvement compared to not being able to have even a drop of water yesterday.

After finishing their meal, George warmly invited Avery to join him for a game of chess.

They played chess whilst sipping coffee and chatting.

Avery sat across from George and listened to him recount stories from his youth and some truly bizarre experiences. She was continuously amazed by what she heard.

Even though she knew the old man's stories were a mix of truth and fiction, she still listened with great enthusiasm.

On the other hand, Heather was a straightforward girl who refused to preserve her grandfather's dignity. Using her high intelligence to make deductions, she repeatedly saw through her grandfather's words, provoking him to feign anger and threaten to hit her with his cane.

Heather was a clever girl. Every time she annoyed her grandfather, she grinned mischievously at him, then burst into laughter and hid behind Avery and cried, “Avery, save me!”

The pair of young and old were constantly finding new ways to amuse Avery, and her gloomy mood seemed to have brightened up quite a bit.

Claire, who stood at the spiral staircase on the second floor, couldn't help but respond with a heartfelt smile of her own when she saw Avery finally showing a hint of a smile.

William stepped out of the room and noticed his wife staring unblinkingly at Avery downstairs. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders, joining her in watching the scene below.

Claire spoke softly, “Honey, I finally saw our daughter smile. Her mood has been bad these past few days, and I was really worried that she wouldn't be able to bear it... It seems like inviting her to our home was indeed the right choice.”
