Kris’s good mood evaporated the moment he stepped out of the kitchen; Zeke hadn’t left the house. And, to Kris’s further annoyance, he didn’t look like he had any intention of leaving.

He was sitting in the living room beside Thalassa, and they were talking. Kris’s jaw clenched. To make matters worse, Thalassa was smiling. Kris’s chest tightened as jealousy reared its head.

He knew he should be happy to see that beautiful smile of hers, but it hurt that she was only smiling in Zeke’s presence even though with him, she was nothing but cold.

Swallowing the bitterness rising in his throat, he forced himself to walk to the dining table, knowing Thalassa wouldn’t like it if he went to the living room.

A few minutes later, Luisa came out of the kitchen and announced, “Breakfast is ready. Kris, can you help me set the table?”

Nodding, Kris got up and helped her. Once they were done, Zeke and Thalassa moved to the table.

Kris could barely focus on his food as they ate. Zeke kept talking about something Kris didn’t bother to listen to, and every time Thalassa looked at Zeke, responded, or smiled at something he said, Kris’s mood soured further.

He wanted to tell Zeke to have some manners and shut the fuck up while eating, but he couldn’t risk Thalassa getting even more upset with him, so he bit his tongue.
