Chapter 258

Sylvie extended her neck and took the paper bags before waving them at Zachary. "Can you tell me what they are, Mr. Zach?"

That was because Patricia seemed to be petrified as she wouldn't respond to Sylvie shaking her.

Zachary took the bags and had a look before smiling. "These are your great-grandfather's gifts to you. They are the deeds to some big houses."

Sylvie widened her eyes. "For real? Do we have our own houses now?"

The other kids had seen it as well, but they remained calm and collected. They were neither excited nor sad, just like how impassive they usually were.

Zachary turned to look at Patricia and spoke in a pleasant voice that was tinged with warmth. "Your grandfather surely doted on you in the past, Tricia."

Only then did Patricia come to her senses and keep the deeds before nodding. "It was because he overly doted on me that the others were jealous of me, and…"

She didn't finish her sentence, for she didn't think it was useful to tell anyone about it. Only she understood the pain she had gone through and the resentment she had.

Just then, her phone started ringing. She lifted it and realized it was Courtney. Then, she glanced at Zachary, who was chatting with the kids joyfully.

Despite knowing what the call would lead to, Patricia still picked it up. "Hello."

"Why did you bring Zach back to your home, Patricia? Even though you're a young lady from the Aniston Family, we don't want you to be part of our family. Stay away from my son!"

Patricia moved the phone away slightly because the other woman was too loud. She could hear that Courtney was fuming. With a frown, she replied, "I didn't bring him home and don't worry, there's nothing between us."

Hearing that, Courtney sneered out of contempt. "I hope things are just like what you've said. Haven't you hooked up with Isaac? Stop pestering Zach, will you?" She then hung up the call furiously.

As Patricia listened to the disconnected tone, she pursed her lips. She knew that Gwen wouldn't sit idly by as Zachary was in her home. As expected, Gwen had contacted the Selwyns.

Patricia kept the phone and eyed Zachary, who was playing a game with the kids.

He was on good terms with the kids, and it was thanks to him that she had managed to endure a lot of hardship over the years. Although his mother had just called to scold her, she wasn't mad. At least it wasn't my own mother who just yelled at me.

Zachary gazed at her. "Who was it?"

He heard something faintly, so he felt that it was his mother.

Patricia shook her head. "The person dialed the wrong number."

Certainly, Zachary couldn't be fooled easily. "Don't care about what my mother thinks, Tricia. What matters is my feelings for you."

Patricia smiled. "Don't you get it, Zachary? A marriage that isn't blessed by family members won't be a happy one."
