Chapter 276

Gwen felt heartbroken when she heard her daughter sob. She gently stroked Adeline's head as her gaze turned sharp. "There's no way that woman can defeat us, Addy. We just have to ruin her reputation, and Isaac will refuse to marry her."

Adeline replied dejectedly, "I told Isaac that she gave birth to an old man's kids, but he doesn't seem to mind that. Old Mrs. Arnold is aware of that as well, but she's still fond of Patricia. It seems that they've all been brainwashed by her. In other words, it's useless to ruin her reputation. They don't mind it, and they still love her very much. She's something. I'm no match for her."

As she spoke, she stole a glance at her mother. She had deliberately made her mother feel infuriated so that the latter would lend her a hand. She knew that there were many tricks up her mother's sleeve.

Back then, the most beautiful woman in Appleby, Melanie Munoz, had been defeated by Gwen, so there was nothing she couldn't achieve.

Adeline believed that Melanie's daughter was no match for her mother. Therefore, as long as her mother was willing to help her, Isaac would come back to her.

On the other hand, Gwen understood that her daughter had been going through hell recently. "Don't worry, darling. Since it's useless to tarnish her reputation, we'll make her disappear forever."

Her gaze was horrendously cold when she said that.

Adeline was stunned at the sight of her mother's expression. There was no doubt that no one could get in Gwen's way when she was determined to achieve her goal.

"What should we do then, Mom?"

Gwen squinted her eyes. "Just leave it to me. Don't worry about it. Don't you have a party to attend tonight? Go and have fun."

Adeline released her and looked at herself through the mirror. "What do you think about my makeup, Mom? I'm going to attend Nikola's birthday party with my friends. I'm sure Isaac will be there. Do you think he'll like it?"

Gwen could tell that her daughter was smitten with Isaac based on the girl's expression, but that man still had the heart to hurt her feelings. Feeling sorry for her daughter, she nodded. "You look gorgeous. I'm sure he'll love the way you look."

Adeline put on her coat and picked up her purse before forcing a smile at her mother. "Even if he doesn't like it, I'll be happy as long as I can take a glance at him."

With that, she turned around and left the room. Her friends were going to buy birthday presents for Nikola, so she had to get one as well. It wasn't like she could attend the birthday party without a present.

After meeting up with Courtney, Patricia returned to the company in a hurry.

When she entered the office and realized Isaac wasn't around, she knew that he must be swamped with work at the moment.

She took a seat by her desk, and when she saw a box on it, she couldn't help but open it.

It was a black evening dress embroidered with golden threads, and it was without shoulder straps. Stars had been sewn on the hem, making the dress look elegant yet vibrant. She imagined herself looking like an elf in the night sky when she put this on.

The slit in the middle of the black dress revealed another layer of silver fabric, and there was no doubt that it was a beautiful dress.
