“Is that so?” Lucas responded in a flat voice. No one could guess what he felt from the tone of his voice.
“Mr. Gomez,” Serenity added, “thank you for the meal and your hospitality. I’d like to get home early today, so please excuse me.”
After she was done speaking, she walked right past him and left.
Lucas watched quietly as Serenity walked away from him. Once she was gone, he finally turned toward Lyra, whose face was completely drained of color.
At the moment, Lyra was misty-eyed and on the verge of tears. Her lovely face now looked pitiful due to her panic.
Lucas gently brushed the corner of her eyes with his fingertips and asked, “Are you going to cry?”
“Lucas,” she hastily told him, “I just love you too much and I don’t want to lose you! I know I was too impulsive today, but… but I promise it won’t happen again.”
“You love me too much?” Lucas asked in an expressionless voice.
