Right Person, Wrong Time

Chapter 774

The weather was lovely the next day, with the sunlight being sufficiently warm. People could bask in the sun to feel warmth and happiness.

When Nicole woke up, Zachary was already done preparing breakfast. She brought her son to the dining hall. Zachary said nothing as he watched them have breakfast, as they looked like a family of three.

When Nicole was done with breakfast, she realized it was 8.30AM, so she decided to get going with Hayden. "It's getting late. Disneyland is in the city center, so I'm worried the traffic will be bad. See you."

There didn't seem to be any emotions on Zachary's face. As he looked up at Nicole, he put on a faint smile and replied, "Alright. You should get going now. Have fun."

Nicole nodded and left the house with Hayden.

As Zachary watched them leave, the smile on his face faded. He sported a stony expression and pressed his lips into a line. A sense of barely perceptible resentment flashed across his gaze. The resentment disappeared so soon that he wasn't even aware of it.

Nicole drove her car to Disneyland. Since it was the weekend, and Disneyland was the largest theme park in the city, she initially thought that the place would be full of people. Much to her surprise, she realized not many people were around when she arrived. The entire theme park looked empty.

While she was astounded, she soon saw a tall figure standing at the theme park's entrance. Colton appeared different from his usual tailored blazer. Instead, he was wearing casual gray clothes and a pair of sneakers.

Nicole took a look and realized this man looked much younger when he wasn't in a suit. At least ten years seemed to have lifted off his face, making him look like a young man in his early twenties.

The moment Hayden saw Colton, he skipped toward him and wrapped his arms around his leg. Lifting his head, he called out, "Daddy!" His childish voice was filled with joy.

Colton looked down at him and bent over to carry him up. There was a faint smile on his face as he stroked Hayden's chubby face and said gently, "You're going to spend the whole day with Daddy and Mommy today. Are you happy?"

Hayden nodded joyfully. Despite his age, he was a mature boy as he had experienced quite some hardship in the past. Regardless, he was still a five-year-old kid who yearned for his parents' attention. As Nicole watched the duo's interaction and heard Hayden's jolly voice, she felt a lump in her throat. She had always known that her son was an intelligent and considerate boy. It was to the point where she had almost forgotten about the fact that he was only five years old.

When she saw Hayden yearning to have fun in the theme park, she realized he was just like any other kid. At that instant, she chastised herself for not being a responsible mother.

While in Colton's arms, Hayden turned his head and saw his mother remaining in the same spot, so he shouted, "What are you doing there, Mommy? Come with us. I want to ride a roller coaster!"

Hearing her son's voice, Nicole came to her senses. She wiped away her tears and shuffled toward them. "I'm coming."

She stood beside Colton. Because she wasn't wearing stilettos on this day, she was much shorter than Colton. Standing beside him, she looked petite.
