Right Person, Wrong Time

Chapter 824

After Nicole and Zachary greeted Gabriel, they went downstairs. Although the party had yet to begin, it seemed rather dead despite the brightly lit Gould Residence.

During then, he was holding her hand in silence.

Smiling, Nicole looked at him and asked, "Aren't you curious as to why Madam Gould wants to adopt me?"

Zachary glanced softly at her and revealed a subtle smile. "If you want to let me in, I'll listen to you. If not, I won't pry into it."

This made her purse her lips. Undeniably, he was always this gentle toward her.

With a smirk, she started to explain, "Actually, I don't understand why the madam wants me as her foster daughter. If it's because of the blood transfusion, then she could just take me in as a goddaughter."

Nicole had a suspicion that things might not be as simple as she thought. What if I'm Madam Gould's real daughter?

Yet, this thought suppressed itself after a flash. Even if there were a mountain of evidence in front of her, she still did not want to admit it. If she did, she would be acknowledging that her mother was pathetic.

Pursing her lips, she hung her head low without speaking.

As if seeing through her disappointment, Zachary reached out and put his arm across her shoulder to comfort her. "Don't think too much into it."

Nicole responded by nodding. Then, the two found a spot and sat down. Just as they did, they heard her stomach rumbling.

He laughed out of response, which made her blush in embarrassment. Coughing lightly, she touched her nose awkwardly and stated, "I didn't eat lunch today to make sure I look nice in this dress."

He smiled and uttered gently, "I'll get some food for you." Then, he added upon standing up. "You look good no matter what you eat. You don't have to skip meals on purpose." With that, he left.

In actuality, Nicole worked out frequently throughout the year and never had to worry about bloating after meals. She caressed her flat belly and realized that she was worried about nothing.

Just as she was immersed in her thoughts, a hoarsely strong yet amiable voice echoed in the room. "Siobhan."

As she looked up at the person, she saw their countenance was somewhat tinted with the desire to complain. "Why did you come down? And there's nobody with you. You've just been in an accident, so your legs aren't fully healed yet. Don't just simply run around."

Nicole's gaze naturally averted to the source of the sound, which pointed her to an old lady with white hair before her. Although the old lady spoke in a stern tone, she still wore a gentle expression. Wearing a full dress, she looked exceptionally spritely.
