After escaping the wild crowd, she finally found a wasted Dylan in the room. The discovery only made her head buzz.

Removing her sunglasses, Nicole kicked Dylan, who had curled himself into a ball. “Get up!”

Dylan lifted his head groggily from among the empty bottles. As soon as he saw Nicole's face, his hazy eyes seemed have to become clearer.

He gave her an annoyed glance. “Aren't you a celebrity who's busy all day and all night? How are you so free to come visit me?”

“You should know well why I'm here. Why did Avery still appear on the media when you two have already registered your marriage? She's even revealed to be the mother of Cayden's children,” Nicole said furiously.

She had thought that the children's mother was someone insignificant and a mere tool for bearing Cayden's children.

To her surprise, the media had revealed Avery's identity this time. Not only that, but she also witnessed Avery, Cayden, and the children interacting harmoniously, and all that filled her heart with panic.

Dylan slowly shifted his gaze back to her. “You know what? I was really close to making Avery mine, but Cayden suddenly barged in. Do you think that was a coincidence?”

Nicole panicked even more at the thought of the incident.

They had originally planned to drug Avery and let Dylan sleep with her. They would then record it to threaten Avery.

It was a flawless plan.

Nicole figured Cayden would be furious to see the woman he loved having sex with another man. After all, no man could tolerate their partner cheating on them.

When that was done, Cayden and Avery's relationship would end.

Nicole decided to text Cayden anonymously about Avery's situation because she knew Cayden—being the smart person he was—would never believe her if she told him Avery was cheating. Her plan would only fail if she did that.

That was why she texted him telling him Avery was in trouble.

Nicole was sure he would go over if he actually cared about Avery, and he would arrive just in time to catch Avery and Dylan having sex.

Never did she expect Dylan to act so slowly.

She had practically delivered Avery to him, yet he had failed to carry out the plan and wasted her efforts.

However, she felt slightly guilty when faced with Dylan's question and did not dare to look him in the eye. “It's your fault for being a slowpoke. I practically delivered her to you, yet you failed to take advantage of her. I'd like to see what you plan to do now that Cayden has revealed Avery's identity. She's your wife. Shouldn't you make your legal marriage public? Are you even a man, Dylan?”

Her words completely angered Dylan.

He stood up with great difficulty, grabbed Nicole by the neck, and fixed his sharp gaze on her. His half-smile and menacing gaze sent chills down Nicole's back.

Suddenly, the room echoed with Dylan's icy laughter.

He glared at the shuddering Nicole and questioned with disgust, “Who do you think you are? What makes you think you have the right to speak to me like that? Don't forget. I'm still the biological son of the Musk family, while you're just a poor orphan William adopted from the orphanage. Do you really think you've become a Lambert just because you're taken into their family? You're just a fake and can never be as good as the real one.”

“So what if I'm not my parents' biological daughter? They practically view me as one. How dare you speak to me like that? Believe it or not, you won't be able to stay in Ackleton once I tell my dad about this,” Nicole said through gritted teeth.

Dylan was unfazed. He tightened his grip around her neck, making her gasp harder for air. “Give it a go, then! It must've been hard on you to act like an innocent girl in front of William, his wife, and the viewers all these years. Have you forgotten the things you've done in the orphanage? Do you think your parents will be disappointed if they discover your selfish, cold-blooded, and vain self-hidden under that mask?”

Horror filled Nicole's eyes.

How did he find out the things I did at the orphanage?

Truth was, she had only become William's adoptive daughter through dishonorable means. If her adoptive parents were to find out about it, her amazing reputation would be ruined. The idea of that scared Nicole.

“I-I'm sorry, Dylan. I shouldn't have said those things to you. Please forgive me for speaking recklessly. I only spouted nonsense because I was anxious. Could you please let me go first?” Nicole begged weakly.

She had to be gentle when faced with a violent man like him.

Nicole was the one with the upper hand, yet she failed to control him. In fact, things were quite the opposite. The feeling of being controlled by someone annoyed her.
