The design for George involved creating a modern house while keeping various elements from the old mansion intact.

Avery had seen many other designers' designs at the company.

The designs ranged from modern mansions to traditional houses, and even mansions with elements derived from other cultures.

However, George had rejected all of them.

He had even scolded the designers from Trident Group and called them fools. He had thought that an international design company was full of elites, yet none of them had been able to give him even one satisfactory design.

In fact, George's pickiness was just the start of the designers' problems. What made things worse for them was the fact that he did not reveal what kind of architectural style or effect he wanted.

It was not easy to be an architect.

A good architect not only had to have creative thinking skills, but they also had to have eye for aesthetics.

Avery had studied design at a university overseas. While she had some basic skills in design, she still could not figure out how to design a house that George would be satisfied with. The main reason was that she did not know what kind of house he wanted.

As Avery stared at the draft she had come up with in the company that morning, she grew increasingly displeased. She felt that it was lacking something.

Just as she was worried about her design, the doorbell rang.

Avery had thought that Cayden had finally returned home. Without looking through the peephole, she excitedly opened the door, only to see Allie standing there.

Allie's face had matured with age, but it still looked as though it had been carved by the gods. There was a haughty arrogance about her, and she emanated a domineering aura.

“Why are you here?” Avery stood at the door and did not have any intention of letting her in.

The woman was like a harbinger of misfortune. If Avery could, she never wanted to see her again.

“I traveled a long distance to get here on such a cold and frosty day. Are you not going to invite me in for a cup of coffee? Avery, where are your manners?” Allie scrutinized Avery from head to toe with a look of disdain on her face. “Do you think I can't do anything to you just because my son is protecting you? Look at you. It has only been a few days, but you've grown prettier...”

Her sharp fingernails pierced into Avery's flesh as she pinched her cheek.

Avery, this sl*t! She's entranced my son and got him wrapped around her finger. She even instigated him to hold a press conference behind the Moore family's back announcing that she is Zachary and Rory's biological mother. How can that be? Anyone can be their mother, but not Avery!

When Allie caught wind of the news, she did not believe it at all.

Her purpose for visiting was to get a few strands of Avery's hair to do a DNA paternity test.

She could not believe that Avery, the woman she hated to the core, was the birth mother of her obedient grandchildren.

Allie firmly believed that Cayden had been seduced by Avery. In order to force the Moore family to accept her, he must have purposely come up with such a lie.

Avery's face hurt. She pushed Allie away harshly but did not expect the latter to trip on her high heels and fall backward.

Allie, who had been used to being respected and superior to others, fell to the ground with a humiliating thump.

Just as she was about to curse at Avery, she saw Cayden's car approach the mansion from a far distance.

She frowned and an evil thought hatched in her mind.

She purposely messed up her hair and wrinkled her clothes, wanting to make herself look as pathetic as possible.

Thereafter, she sat on the ground and howled, “Avery, you have no conscience! I came over on such a cold day and you didn't let me into the house! You even hit me! My son must be blind to fall in love with such a terrible woman like you!”

Allie scolded Avery and framed her, using the worst vocabulary she could think of.

Those words were like knives stabbing into Avery's heart.

Avery was seething with rage. However, she could not hit Allie, nor did she know how to retaliate with words. With no other options, she grabbed Allie's arm and pulled her out of the door before slamming the door shut with a loud bang.

Cayden naturally heard Allie's voice.

He hurriedly parked his car in the garage before rushing to the mansion, only to see Avery pulling his mother and pushing her out of the door.

Cayden's heart sank. He did not expect her mother to come over to make a scene again.

“Son! My son! You have to help me! Avery is terrible. She doesn't respect her elders and even hit me! You can't be with such a woman. Get rid of her quickly, or I'll really die...” Allie sat on the ground and hit her thigh as she persuaded Cayden to leave Avery.
