Kaia Domont arrives at City Hall to marry her college sweetheart of five years, Alden Graves. It’s Valentine’s Day, a special date she had to book weeks in advance. However, Alden isn’t there. When she calls him, he coldly tells her he's not coming, claiming "something came up" and that the date doesn't matter.

As she talks to him, a female voice in the background tells Alden that "breakfast is getting cold." Kaia instantly recognizes the voice of Luna Thorne, Alden’s adopted sister who has been gone for eighteen years. Alden hangs up on her.

Soon after, Luna texts Kaia, saying Alden was at her welcome-back party and got drunk. She invites Kaia to breakfast, and Kaia, determined to confront them, accepts.

When Kaia arrives at the restaurant, she overhears Alden and his friends. They are making fun of her, with one friend scoffing, “Mr. Graves doesn’t love her. Everyone knows he’s only got eyes for Luna.” Alden confirms this by telling Luna, "No one matters more than you.”

A heartbroken Kaia walks into the room, where the atmosphere turns awkward. Alden is impatient with her presence and orders her to leave. Kaia, no longer willing to be humiliated, announces that their engagement is over. She throws the number slip for their marriage appointment on the floor, calling it a wedding gift for Alden and Luna.

Alden's friends and Luna try to deny the situation, insisting that Alden and Luna are just like siblings. Alden demands an apology from Kaia for her words, but Kaia refuses and publicly swears she will never marry him.
